Chinese hacker team Pangu has released the first untethered jailbreak for iOS9, within only a month of its launch. An untethered jailbreak requires no connection to computer except for the initial jailbreaking process.
The jailbreak can be installed on iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with public version of iOS 9 (iOS 9.0, iOS 9.0.1 and iOS 9.0.2). The compatible devices listed on the Pangu website include iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, iPhone 5, iPhone 4S. iPad Air 2, iPad Air, iPad Mini 3, iPad Mini with retina (iPad Mini 2), iPad Mini, iPad 4, iPad 3, iPad 2 and iPod touch 5/6 , iPad Pro.
Although the jailbreak software is available for free, but currently only a Windows installer available, meaning that Mac users will have to wait, 9to5 Mac reported. Pangu team asks users to use a Windows virtual machine on their Mac OS to Jailbreak iOS 9 - 9.0.2 device on Mac. It urges users to back up their data via iTunes before jailbreak.
“In order to increase the success rate, please switch your device to airplane mode, and disable passcode and “find my iPhone” functions in system setting”, it added.
Jailbreaking is the process of removing restrictions imposed by iOS, Apple's operating system, on devices running it through the use of software exploits.
