BOSTON, Feb. 22, 2018 -- HIMSS has named Choate healthcare and regulatory partner Julia R. Hesse as a speaker for the 2018 HIMSS Conference & Exhibition, which will be held on March 5-9, 2018, in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Venetian – Palazzo – Sands Expo Center.
Ms. Hesse will be joined by Guidepoint Managing Director of Healthcare Sonia E. Arista to co-present, “Let’s Get Real: Creating a Practical Data Security Program” on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at 8:30am at HIMSS18. Attendees will hear from legal and security experts on practical tactics for developing a data security program among disparate vendors by conducting and documenting risk assessments and application-specific security standards. The session will also address regulatory guidance on effective security standards and focus on the difference between a security incident and a data breach.
“The amount of sensitive medical information being stored on antiquated IT systems is staggering,” said Hesse. “Hospitals, health systems and health IT providers must focus on risk assessments and breach response to strengthen their cybersecurity protocols to ensure that their patients’ and customers’ right to privacy and protection under HIPAA are being maintained. I look forward to discussing these trends in depth at HIMSS18.”
“At HIMSS18, exhibiting organizations will share their IT solutions and services focused on improving health through the best use of information and technology. We know this year will offer memorable, experiential, hand-on opportunities for our attendees and exhibitors. I am honored to welcome and thank our exhibitors for their participation at HIMSS18 and their continued collaborative efforts to improve the delivery, cost of and access to quality healthcare through IT,” said Elli Riley, CEM, senior director, exhibits and meeting services, HIMSS North America.
HIMSS proposals have gone through a peer-review selection process for enhanced efficiency and quality in selection of the educational offerings at the conference.
