Coca-Cola launches its first 'Recycle Bar' in Hong Kong, a creative move toward sustainability, promoting recycling habits and showcasing rPET recycled products.
For the project, Coca-Cola teamed up with City Plaza, which is an office and shopping development developed by Swire Properties. This is also part of the beverage and snack company's efforts in the promotion of recycling packaging and other containers.
As per Marketing in Asia, the Recycle Bar in Hong Kong is also aimed at encouraging people to engage in the recycling of plastic materials. Through the stall, the maker of Coke products wants to teach and foster better recycling habits as well.
Coca-Cola and City Plaza have opened the booth with hopes of raising awareness about the state of the environment and imparting ideas on what can be done to help reduce waste and lower the carbon footprint to save the Earth.
The Recycle Bar opened on June 2, and it will continue to operate until June 11. The bar displays a collection of recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) that has been turned into new useful everyday items. By showcasing these items, visitors are being encouraged to do the same.
Coca-Cola is also offering free drinks and rPET-made souvenirs to people who will recycle used PET bottles. Furthermore, Recycle Bar itself was made with recycled items, with its 30 pieces of furniture that include the tables, chairs, counter, and stools, being made with 18,000 recycled plastic bottles.
After the exhibition, the furniture pieces are set to be moved to the "Recycling Academy," which is an experience center created by Coca-Cola as part of its commitment to educate the public about recycling.
"In addressing environmental issues, we believe everyone should be accounted for and be accountable," Marketing Interactive quoted The Coca-Cola Company Hong Kong and Macau's franchise operations director, Marella Canepa Risso, as saying in a statement. "Through public displays like Recycle Bar, as well as other roadshows and workshops that provide consumers with knowledge and experience in PET bottle recycling, we invite Hong Kong people to get inspired through seeing how used PET bottles can be given a new life - again and again - if returned and recycled properly."
