The Coca-Cola Company is launching its newest non-fungible token (NFT) collection, the "Masterpiece." This will feature modern and timeless art pieces.
Coca-Cola chose to release its new NFT collection through Coinbase's newly created Ethereum Layer 2 chain that offers a safe, low-cost, developer-friendly platform to build on-chain called Base. This will also mark the Coke softdrink maker's reinvestment in Web3.
According to BSC News, Coca-Cola's "Masterpiece NFT Collection" will feature famous artworks fused in the iconic Coke bottle. There will also be popular art made by emerging artists.
The new NFTs simply expand and cement the snack and beverage company's presence in the non-fungible token space. This will also be its very first collaboration with Coinbase's layer-2 network.
Coinbase first announced the arrival of Coca-Cola's NFT collection over the weekend and stated that it will be part of its "Onchain Summer" festival event. This will run for weeks and, through the virtual realm, will celebrate gaming, music, art, culture, and more.
One of Coca-Cola's NFTs that should not be missed is the Coke bottle with Edvard Munch's famous "The Scream" artwork. There is another one with Johannes Vermeer's "Girl with a Pearl Earring" piece, so the lineup of digital tokens are really iconic collectibles.
"The Masterpiece collection uniquely brings together iconic artworks along with new works from emerging talents, all intertwined with the iconic Coca-Cola bottle," Coinbase wrote in a description on Onechain Summer's page. "Classic masterpieces like "The Scream" by Edvard Munch and "Girl with a Pearl Earring" by Johannes Vermeer find a harmonious coexistence alongside contemporary works by talented artists like Aket and Vikram Kushwah."
The note further stated that "Each of these artworks was featured works in Coca-Cola's Masterpiece Global campaign, and now take on a new dimension as they become digital collectibles, accessible to art enthusiasts participating in Onchain Summer."
