Some fans of the franchise are still waiting for “Code Geass” Season 3 even though it’s been more than 10 years since the second installment ended. But judging by the previous statement of writer Ichiro Okouchi, there’s an extremely low chance of it happening.
In lieu of “Code Geass” Season 3, will be a new film that is essentially an alternate universe to the story that occurred in the anime series. Okouchi said he initially planned to end the story when the second entry was released but changed his mind and made new films for the franchise.
The latest one, called “Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection,” will be continuing the events that took place in the movies rather than follow the plot of the series. This makes sense given that Lelouch would’ve remained dead if they have created “Code Geass” Season 3.
But given that they followed the route of the films, Lelouch will be stepping up the plate once more. And fans are loving his return judging by the noise being generated over at social media. Indeed, one would only need to look at the Youtube comments of the film’s trailer to see that the majority of the fans are happy that Lelouch is alive and kicking. Of course, there are others that would’ve preferred for a “Code Geass” Season 3 but that door appears to have been shut for good.
To appease both parties, director Gora Taniguchi released a statement saying that the upcoming film isn’t supposed to work against the events that would’ve been portrayed in “Code Geass” Season 3. To put shortly, the alternate universe is there to explore the narrative that wasn’t told by the series. However, other fans are seeing this as simply milking the franchise. As for when fans can watch the film, it’s already available in select areas with its release date in North America scheduled on May 7-8.
