“Colony” season 4 is not happening after USA Network canceled the show in July last year. The viewers of the sci-fi series were so brokenhearted with the announcement that they started to do something to save it.
The series had a successful debut until it experienced a steep decline in the third season. When it premiered via the 2015 ComicCon, many people were in awe, and it immediately garnered throngs of an audience and good ratings. What’s more, “Colony” was the no. 1 scripted cable drama series in the Thursday night programming.
Thus, when the cancellation was announced, fans launched a petition to save “Colony” season 4. The call was addressed to USA Network, Netflix, Hulu, HBO, Syfy and Amazon Studios in an effort for any one of these networks to pick up and continue the series. The petition is still active as people are still voting up to now, but unfortunately, it appears that no network has expressed interest in running “Colony” season 4.
Why was the Series Cancelled?
“Colony” season 4 was axed due to the decline in viewership ratings. The drop is partly being blamed to the fact that the show failed to win a California tax credit so it can film in Los Angeles. This led to the change of filming location to Vancouver, Canada.
The move affected the storyline as they have to make a big backdrop shift and this could have also caused the ratings to slide. Moreover, the executive producer and co-creator of “Colony,” Carlton Cuse, left the series for Amazon’s “Jack Ryan” and his exit was a blow on the show as well.
According to Deadline, “Colony” started strong with 2.2 million viewers and this continued up to season 2. However, on the third installment, the number dropped to the lowest season average for dramas airing on USA network after losing almost half of its viewers.
Meanwhile, Netflix recently launched “Colony” season. It started airing on the streaming site on May 2, as per What’s On Netflix. For fans who want to catch up or view the series again, they can now stream it today.
