The Concepts x Nike Kyrie 5 Ikhet’s design has been unveiled and its creation has been heavily inspired by Egyptian culture, specifically the great pyramids. Looking at the sneakers, there are a lot of little illustrations that can be seen alluding to Kyrie Irving and his fascination for the ancient arts.
One of these is the eye found on the Hamsa Hand. Kyrie Irving’s arm tattoo has been integrated into the Concepts x Nike Kyrie 5 Ikhet located at the back of the sneakers. The symbol has been widely accepted as a sign of good luck, commonly found among Jewish and Muslim communities.
The kicks have been given a sand-colored beige on top resting on a purple a purple base with a sharp point that’s supposed to represent the pyramid. Meanwhile, the red tongue of the Concepts x Nike Kyrie 5 Ikhet seems to be a nod to the Sphinx’s nose before the edifice suffered the ravages of time and decay.
Splashed across the Concepts x Nike Kyrie 5 Ikhet are subtle brand logos and signature of Kyrie Irving. The influential retailer had their logo placed on the tongue of the left sneakers and just beneath it is the Boston guard’s signature. On the right can be found a letter “C” on its overlay, another allusion to the Concept brand.
Speaking to the inspirations that have been used on the Concepts x Nike Kyrie 5 Ikhet, Kyrie Irving said that the ancient pyramids have always fascinated him. “I found out the mortar used remains a mystery to scientists — they still can’t figure how it stuck together, but it’s some of the strongest stuff ever made,” the 26-years-old guard said.
“I learned that the limestone glowing in the sun made the pyramids glow brighter than a diamond. And one thing that really got me: there was a 20-ton door on one of the pyramids that were so precise, you can’t squeeze a credit card through the seams — but it can be opened with one hand.” The price of the Concepts x Nike Kyrie 5 Ikhet is at $130 with a release date slated on Dec. 16.
