“Criminal Minds” season 14 is getting way ahead of other shows in the hype campaign after a press release for the synopsis of its second episode was recently released. While the upcoming episode's mummified corpses fit right in with the coming Halloween season, fans might be interested in why David Rossi (Joe Mantegna) will be reconnecting with his third ex-wife, Krystall Richards (Gail O'Grady).
Fans will remember that Rossi and Krystall's brief screen time together prior to “Criminal Minds” season 14 involved only the case where Rossi was able to uncover the fact that Krystall's soon-to-be son-in-law was a con man. Krystall's daughter, Portia Richards (Danielle C. Ryan), was apparently being set up to be squeezed fry financially by her fiance.
Krystall had invited the Behavioral Analysis Unit head to accompany her as a plus-one to Portia's wedding, and it was Rossi's keen investigation skills which helped prevent Portia's husband-to-be from getting away with his plans. After Rossi saved the day by exposing Portia's fiance, Krystall and Rossi did spend a close moment reminiscing the past over cards and music but their relationship was not mentioned again until the recent synopsis drop for "Criminal Minds" season 14.
But beyond that one moment where Rossi and Krystall sort of connected, Krystall does not seem to have a reason to run back to David Rossi's arms any time soon. The fact that the two met in Las Vegas, got married in a drive-thru chapel, and annulled their marriage after 36 hours is not much of a background to build a relationship on. It is more likely that Krystall Richards will be running back to Rossi in “Criminal Minds” season 14 because of a connection to a case.
Fans of the show looking forward to figuring out why Krystall Richards will be running into David Rossi again in “Criminal Minds” season 14 can catch the show's season premiere episode when it airs on Oct. 3, and the season's second episode the week after on Oct. 10.
