“Criminal Minds” season 14 will be a bit different as showrunner Erica Messer tweaked the script a bit. The changes will be based on the dangerous cliffhangers of season 13, when Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) was kidnapped and Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) was forced to help the cult leader The Messiah or Garcia will get a bullet.
The trauma from this cliffhanger conclusion of the 13th season will affect Garcia's personality and the changes in her will be one of the highlights in “Criminal Minds” season 14.
“We wanted to play that Garcia is going to be affected. She’s been abducted and held captive, and that’s not a place we’ve seen her before,” showrunner Erica Messer told TV Line. “And what she does in order to survive is, again, not something that character has truly played.”
Kirsten Vangsness also recently talked about the shift in her character in the upcoming “Criminal Minds” season 14. She said that the pilot will be a harrowing episode and it was in fact “scary to do it.”
"Just the locations we were in and the stuff Garcia does in the episode are so out of her element," she told Newsweek. "Garcia is, 'Hate the behavior, not the person.' In the finale of Season 13, the last moment you see her screaming at Reid and saying to kill this woman, which is something Garcia would never say."
She added, "The whole season premiere is interesting because it's the first time she's actively hated a person." The actress went on to say that this personal turmoil will further affect the team in dangerous ways and viewers will see them in the episodes to come.
Moreover, aside from Garcia, Messer revealed that they will also show a bit of Alvez’s (Adam Rodriguez), backstory. They will do it in “Criminal Minds” season 14 as there was no chance to do it since his character was introduced in season 12.
And when it is about exploring the personal lives of the characters, surely their love lives will also be involved. Messer hinted that there will also be some romance in “Criminal Minds” season 14 and it will be about that between David Rossi (Joe Mantegna) and his wife no. 3. Viewers will see their loveline in the second episode of this installment.
Meanwhile, “Criminal Minds” season 14 is set to premiere on Oct. 3 on CBS and it will feature 15 episodes. But there is a possibility that it will be extended as per the show’s EP Harry Bring’s tweet.
