Greek authorities began security checks in Syros after an unknown person claimed an explosive was attached to the hull of the Israel-bound Crown Iris, Reuters reported.

The ship was due to sail from Syros to Haifa with 940 passengers and 597 crew aboard, Reuters reported. It flies the Panama flag.

Coast guard personnel had a dog trained to detect explosives and a private diver help with the search. A special coast guard unit was also sent to Syros. The initial sweep did not produce evidence of explosives, Reuters reported.

A second examination was set for 9:30 p.m. local time (1930 GMT), when additional coast guard specialists were expected at the port, Reuters reported. The ship’s journey could continue after the further checks.

Airport operations across Europe were also disrupted Tuesday after bomb threats affected at least seven flights in Europe. Reuters said searches in those cases uncovered no devices.
