AMC Theatres is set to add a new cryptocurrency payment option, and this was confirmed by the company's CEO. The company will be accepting Dogecoin (DOGE) and Shiba Inu (SHIB) payments soon.
AMC Theaters is already using crypto and allowed several digital currencies as a form of payment for its services and tickets. As mentioned on CoinDesk, the American movie theater chain started accepting Ethereum (ETH), Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), and Litecoin (LTC) in November of last year.
The company's chief executive officer, Adam Aron, announced this week that popular meme coins - DOGE and SHIB - are coming as well, and these will be accepted for transactions with AMC Theaters through BitPay, a crypto payment service provider.
Aron said that they will begin accepting the two digital currencies by March 19. For the AMC app users, they will be able to make transfers by April 16.
"This might rev up the Cryptocurrency fans amongst you. AMC IT says that BitPay will be live for AMC online payments on our website by March 19, and live on our mobile apps by April 16," the AMC Theater's chief tweeted on March 1. "Possibly a few days earlier. BitPay, and therefore soon AMC, accepts DogeCoin and Shiba Inu."
The company has been mulling on adding Doge and Shib to its list of acceptable crypto payments since the last quarter of 2021. And since there were many people who also expressed their wish for AMC to add the two tokens, the theater chain finally made the decision to include them.
At any rate, during AMC Entertainment's latest earnings call, Aron further briefed the company on cryptocurrency and gave updates on their NFT projects. CoinTelegraph reported that the conference took place on Tuesday this week, and he once again confirmed the arrival of Doge and Shib in the coming weeks. He also commended the blockchain industry and said AMC will not stop exploring the crypto world.
"We continue to explore how else AMC can participate in the burgeoning crypto universe, and we remain quite intrigued by the potential business opportunity," the publication quoted Aron as saying.
