One of the first news to greet video game fans in 2020 is about the delay in the release of “Cyberpunk 2077.” While developer CD Projekt Red cited the common issues that cause a sudden change in a game’s launch schedule, a rumor came out seemingly placing the blame on the Xbox One platform.

Cyberpunk 2077’ rumor claims the delay is caused by Xbox One’s inability to handle the game

“Cyberpunk 2077” is set to be released on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. However, an insider report is claiming that the upcoming role-playing game is not performing well on Xbox One and ultimately caused the release date delay.

Poland-based video game insider Borys Niespielak claimed in a recent podcast that the delay was determined when the first Xbox One console from 2013 is purportedly having major issues with the current state of “Cyberpunk 2077.” In translated excerpts of the podcast by Discord user Klawiaturodzierzca (via Altchar), Niespielak’s sources reported that the game was “extremely unsatisfactory” when tested on the said gaming system.

The same report claimed that the 2013 Xbox One is the “biggest problem” leading to the decision to move the launch. The Xbox One system has gone through several updates since 2013 with the release of the Xbox One S and Xbox One X consoles in 2016 and 2017, respectively.

Cyberpunk 2077’ release date: CD Projekt Red responds to rumors, clarifies the state of the game

CD Projekt Red is not denying that it has plenty of work to do in polishing “Cyberpunk 2077” before it goes gold but argues that it is a common stage of most game developments. “Of course we're optimizing for the Xbox One, and for the Playstation, and for the PC, because that's what you do in the last stretches of game development,” CDPR senior quest designer Philipp Weber, known as Benzenzimmern in online forums, said. “While the game is made, lots of things are unoptimized, because they're all in flux, changing, and still not finished.”

“Cyberpunk 2077” was originally set to go live in April. Following the delay, the game is now coming out on Sept. 17.
