Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan became so famous after starring in the erotic film series “Fifty Shades of Grey.” It also launched rumors about the two of them getting romantically involved even though the latter is already married and the former is in a relationship.
In any case, after the “Fifty Shades” movies, Dakota Johnson is trying her hand in other genres and this time she chose horror. She is starring in “Suspiria” alongside with Chloe Grace Moretz and Tilda Swinton.
The movie is a remake of Dario Argento's 1977 supernatural horror film of the same title. Just seeing the trailer is enough to scare the viewers, and Dakota Johnson attested that it is indeed an intense horror movie that even herself was creeped out while filming.
The actress said that she was horrified that it made her seek therapy. “Making ‘Suspiria,’ no lie, f**ked me up so much that I had to go to therapy,” she told Elle magazine.
She then narrated that they shot the movie in an abandoned hotel located on top of a mountain and ”it had 30 telephone poles on the roof, so there was electricity pulsating through the building, and everyone was shocking each other. It was cold as s**t, and so dry.”
The hotel is called the Grand Hotel Campo dei Fiori and it is in Northern Italy. “Suspiria” tells that story of an American ballet student who enrolled in a prestigious dance school run by a mysterious woman. She soon found out that the school is covered in darkness as it is only a front to a supernatural conspiracy involving witchcraft activities.
It can be easily assumed that what scared Dakota Johnson the most would be the scene where she had to act with supernatural elements, but it was not. As she revealed to Entertainment Weekly that it was terrifying to dance in front of people.
The remake's director, Luca Guadagnino, said that the original film did not have a grand dance presentation and it only showed the cast in dance lessons.
"We felt that dance needed to be part of the process of witchcraft. That performance builds towards the greater ritual that is at the core of the film," the director said.
According to Dakota, this particular dance number that director Luca was talking about took a lot of planning and practice. She further said that it is not an ordinary dance because it was as creepy as everything else since they “were moving on the points of a pentagram, as though the dance were casting a spell."
But this was not the scariest part yet. Dancing with the actual audience while they performed the witchy dance was fearful for her.
“I trained on and off for about a year before we started filming, but I’m not a professional dancer. It was terrifying,” Dakota shared.
Meanwhile, fans are looking forward to the next Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan film. However, there is still no news if the “Fifty Shades of Grey” stars are acting together again in a new project.
