Porting a game to the PC is a notoriously problematic proposition, plagued by everything ranging frame rate issues to completely unplayable controls; take the case of “Batman: Arkham Knight,” for example. So when it was announced that “Gears Of War 4” would be playable on the PC via Microsoft’s “Xbox Play Anywhere” feature, a lot of gamers were justifiably concerned. In order to allay the fears of players, “The Coalition” studio stated that they were working on the compatibility of both platforms in order to provide fans with a completely optimized experience.
As Engadget notes, titles that were supported by Microsoft and ported to the PC have not exactly been great successes. “Quantum Break” by the studio “Remedy” is a good example of this, since it was saddled with framerate issues that frustrated players to no end.
“The Coalition” is promising players that this will not be the case with their title, as they are providing features that are specific to the PC along with the port. Among these features are video settings that allow players to change the quality of the graphics as well as the framerates to suit their gaming rig; a feature that is conspicuously absent in a lot of ported titles.
The game will also use the multi-cores that modern CPUs and GPUs have in order to deliver the very best textures, lighting, and decals that their computers can offer. As for the controls, PC-users will have complete control over the mapping, customizations and so on. All of these and more were revealed by Mike Rayner, the technical director of the game during his interview with Eurogamer.
In other news, Gamespresso reports that the new “Gears Of War 4 Elite Xbox One” controller is out. It costs $200 and has a red, weathered look and an additional D-pad with images of weapons in the game.
