ADVA ALM Provides Real-Time, In-Service Link Monitoring for Improved Performance and Streamlined Operations
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA. March 31, 2017. ADVA Optical Networking announced today that Dobson Technologies, the Oklahoma-based telecom services, transport network and IT provider has selected the ADVA ALM fiber assurance solution for up-to-the-second knowledge of its state-wide fiber optic network. ADVA Optical Networking's advanced link monitoring technology will deliver precise, real-time insight into key portions of Dobson Technologies' fiber plant, which stretches over 3,000 miles. This provides continuous and accurate performance data and helps to maximize service availability for its enterprise customers. With the solution's robust optical demarcation points for total network visibility, Dobson Technologies will be able to instantly respond to faults and deliver service assurance like never before. Its carbon footprint will also be improved as unnecessary truck rolls can now be avoided.
"Our customers are our number one priority and delivering reliable, high-quality services is our ultimate goal. ADVA Optical Networking's fiber monitoring technology helps us take that to a whole new level. With total access-link visibility we can provide an even more robust and efficient service and give our business customers a crucial competitive edge," said Adam Cavazos, VP, network systems and engineering, Dobson Technologies. "Now we can proactively monitor our entire network, remotely pinpointing areas of concern and quickly identifying and locating faults. The ADVA ALM fiber assurance solution supports a simpler, more sustainable process for operations and maintenance. It means no more wasted time, effort and resources. This simple plug-and-play device is a key part of our mission to build sustainable infrastructure that delivers value both now and in the future."
The ADVA ALM will non-intrusively monitor Dobson Technologies' network, which transports 100Gbit/s using the ADVA FSP 3000. Designed for maximum power efficiency, the ADVA ALM efficiently uses the available spectral to operate independently and creates no interference as it proactively monitors Dobson Technologies' network. This maintains transparency while avoiding impact on applications provisioned on top of the fiber infrastructure. Fiber links can now be monitored in-service without the need to install active equipment at a fiber endpoint. When a failure is detected, Dobson Technologies' maintenance teams are instantly alerted. They can investigate whether the problem is fiber-related or caused by equipment failure on the client side. Only deploying the necessary crew makes the process far more environmentally friendly and drastically reduces operating costs.
"Dobson Technologies has a culture of embracing innovation. Its team is constantly striving to harness the latest technology in order to refine and improve the services they provide to their customers," commented Ulrich Kohn, director, technical marketing, ADVA Optical Networking. "As our ALM monitors each fiber link, it's a vital tool for communication service providers aiming to deliver superior performance. It will enable the team at Dobson Technologies to avoid unsuccessful repair attempts, prevent outages and please customers. Together with our partner Goldfield Telecom, we've created a cost-effective solution that enables Dobson Technologies to get more from their fiber plant. We're also helping them maximize the potential of their network while delivering even more in terms of sustainability."
