Dom Dom Hamburger has launched the Osatsu (Sweet Potato) Salmon Burger, an inventive seasonal offering that pairs sweet potato with a generous salmon filet. Known for creative menus, the Japanese chain's latest release promises a harmonious blend of textures and flavors, available for a limited time.
Dom Dom’s Osatsu Salmon Burger Surprises with Bold Flavors and Seasonal Sweet Potato Twist
Dom Dom again steps outside the conventional regarding what goes inside their burgers.
Imagine assembling a burger. You might reach for the usual toppings like lettuce, tomato, and onion. Now, picture swapping those with a slab of potato. Unusual? Perhaps. But given how well French fries pair with burgers, it makes sense. And Dom Dom takes it a step further—not just any potato, but a slice of sweet potato, featured as a unique burger topping.
Curiosity piqued, and the team headed to Dom Dom Hamburger to try their new Osatsu (Sweet Potato) Salmon Burger. Though one of Japan’s smaller burger chains, Dom Dom is known for its creativity. Past offerings have included burgers with whole deep-fried crabs and sandwiches featuring thick Japanese-style omelets. Launching the Osatsu Salmon Burger in the heart of sweet potato and salmon season, Dom Dom’s timing is ideal for this innovative release.
After placing the order, there was a brief five-minute wait. Upon unwrapping the burger, the sight of a sizable salmon filet overflowing the bun caught them by surprise, as Dom Dom’s promotional images hadn’t emphasized its generous portion. Nestled on top of the salmon filet was shredded cabbage with tartar sauce, and a slice of fried sweet potato was below. Interestingly, this arrangement differed from the promotional photo, but there’s no definitive “right” placement in sweet potato burgers.
A quick slice through the burger’s cross-section revealed a surprise: cheese hidden within the breading of the salmon filet.
Curious if the burger could make a case for sweet potato as a topping, the team took their first bite—and Dom Dom succeeded. Despite the unconventional concept, the flavors melded into a balanced, delightful combination.
Sweet Potato Brings Subtle Sweetness and Texture Harmony to Dom Dom’s Limited-Time Salmon Burger
Sweet potato’s gentle sweetness and starchy texture complemented rather than overpowered the other ingredients. Sampling the sweet potato by itself, they found it delicious in its simplicity, with no distracting seasonings—allowing it to blend seamlessly into the burger.
Beyond flavor, the burger’s varied textures elevated the experience. The crisp cabbage, crunchy salmon breading, and fluffy sweet potato slice created a satisfying complexity, making each bite more enjoyable than the last.
As sweet potato is a seasonal ingredient, the Osatsu Salmon Burger will only be available for a limited time. It has been sold at all Dom Dom Hamburger locations since October 25. For those eager to explore more seasonal Japanese flavors, Burger King Japan’s Kyoto Whopper, made with freshly harvested rice, is also available.
