Twice-impeached, one-term former President Donald Trump has all but announced a re-election bid in the 2024 races. As Trump has yet to announce a third bid for the presidency, officials in Palm Beach are already reportedly meeting with his Secret Service detail to discuss arrangements.
The Palm Beach Post reports that officials met with the former president’s Secret Service detail to discuss security arrangements in case Trump makes another bid for the presidency. Palm Beach officials have raised questions regarding the impact this may have on their town since Trump made Florida his official residence, with his private Mar-a-Lago club as his home. The outlet noted that this was not the first time Palm Beach officials met with Trump’s Secret Service.
According to the report, both sides met twice to prepare, and last Tuesday, the Secret Service called on the law enforcement officials of the area for a meeting in case Trump announces a 2024 presidential bid.
“It is possible the US Secret Service met with local law enforcement near Mar-a-Lago to figure out a strategy for an influx of people on the island and across the bridge into West Palm Beach if Trump were to announce a run for the White House,” said the report.
The report noted that during Trump’s presidency, there would be an increased number of people coming and going from the area. Traffic in the area was also delayed and diverted whenever Trump was in his private club, and the Secret Service checkpoints also slowed down the flow of cars in the vicinity.
Despite possibly having his sights set on a 2024 run, Trump has still refused to concede in his loss to Joe Biden in the 2020 elections, making desperate attempts to stay in power even after his loss was finalized and his lawsuits contesting the results dismissed. One attempt Trump was revealed to make was calling up Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, asking to “find” him the margin of votes that Biden won against him plus one.
The report by Newsweek revealed that Trump pushed Raffensperger to overturn Biden’s victory in Georgia, citing that other states would be doing the same. No states, even after several audits took place, overturned Biden’s win to Trump.
