It’s still unclear if “Dororo” Season 2 will indeed be happening as MAPPA studio hasn’t announced anything yet. But for the sake of discussion, let’s assume that the second installment will be greenlighted, what is it going to be about?
The most obvious route that “Dororo” Season 2 can take is to have Hyakkimaru continue his journey through the path of righteousness. Now that he’s managed to retrieve all of his stolen body parts, there’s no need for him to go rampaging about in search for them.
Thus, “Dororo” Season 2 could have the troubled protagonist cleanse Japan of evil that has yet been rooted out. Of course, this couldn’t last long since he still needs the thief by his side. The first installment also ended with the deuteragonist growing up to be a comely young maid, MonsterAndCritics reported.
Dororo Season 2 to reveal the young thief’s age?
This, too, could also be a potential plot point, with the pair’s relationship evolving from being platonic to romantic, which brings us to their respective age. In the anime, Hyakkimaru is labeled as 16, while Dororo’s age is unknown. However, given that in the manga Hyakkimaru is 14 and Dororo is 9, it can be assumed that Dororo 11 in the anime on account of the five-year difference in the source material. With such a close gap, it’s safe to assume that if “Dororo” Season 2 happens, there might be a chance of a romantic plotline being explored by the two main characters.
It will also be a great foundation for Hyakkimaru to protect Dororo, especially since there’s a possession arc that’s been portrayed in the video game adaptation of the series. For the unaware, the game “Blood Will Tell” followed the scrapped ending in the manga where Hyakkimaru was tasked to kill Dororo after the former discovered there’s a demon residing within her. A demon that’s holding his right arm. Though Hyakkimaru managed to regain all of his parts, “Dororo” Season 2 can still use this possession plotline to add more tension to the story.
Is there a possibility for Dororo Season 2?
Assuming, of course, if the second installment will indeed happen. With the core premise of the story resolved, it’s difficult to imagine that “Dororo” Season 2 will be greenlighted. But there are silver linings. Among them is the sheer popularity of the series.
While some fans have been contented with how the plot concluded, others are asking for “Dororo” Season 2, which isn’t surprising given how compelling both the main characters are. There’s also the fact that Biwamaru’s dialogue has opened a darker path for Hyakkimaru and Dororo, hinting at a future that is bloodier than their past. Whatever the case, it would appear that it’ll take a while before any news about the second entry pops out given that the first installment just recently ended.
