The people behind the making of the next “Dragon Ball Super” movie recently confirmed who is going to be the main bad guy in the upcoming animated film. And fans will see a familiar face as Broly comes back as the movie villain.
Producer Toei Animation released the latest trailer for the upcoming “Dragon Ball Super” movie on Monday. While the 30-second video teaser did not reveal a lot of details, fans can see a very short glimpse of Broly, while most of the scenes include the main protagonist, Son Goku.
If the trailer is not clear enough for some people, Toei Animation has also released a promotional poster for the “Dragon Ball Super” movie where Broly is seen alongside Goku and Vegeta in their Super Saiyan forms. The 2018 “Dragon Ball Super” movie is going to be Broly’s third appearance in the film franchise as the main villain.
To celebrate the announcement of Broly as the bad guy to defeat in the next “Dragon Ball Super” movie, franchise creator Akira Toriyama posted an entire blog discussing the character. “He appeared only in past anime films, and is a ridiculously strong Saiyan. I am told I only drew his design; at that time I was mostly uninvolved with the anime, and so I completely forgot the details,” Toriyama wrote (translation via Anime News Network).
In the same note, Toriyama revealed that producers of the “Dragon Ball Super” movie have previously recognized how popular Broly has become in Japan and other parts of the world. For that reason, they decided to “make the movie about Broly this time.”
Meanwhile, Toriyama also teased that he applied several adjustments to Broly’s character design in the 20th “Dragon Ball Super” movie to satisfy the fans. Apart from the obvious action-packed fight scenes, the “Dragon Ball” creator also hinted that the film will also tackle the history of the Saiyans as well as the Frieza Army.
The new “Dragon Ball Super” movie is slated to premiere on Dec. 14 in Japan. It is also expected to be released in North America but its schedule remains undisclosed.
