NASHUA, N.H., April 30, 2018 -- Dresner Advisory Services today published the 2018 Collective Insights® Market Study, part of the Wisdom of Crowds® series of research. The 3rd annual report examines end user trends and intentions around collaborative business intelligence (BI) including user governance and data storytelling.
Collaborative BI is a process where individuals in organizations work together to build and share insights to develop a common understanding and build consensus. User governance enhances the collaborative BI environment by directing content creation and sharing, thus improving information consistency and accelerating group-based decision-making.
The 2018 report shows that while users attach more importance to core BI functionality such as dashboards, reporting, self-service, and advanced visualization, collaborative BI demonstrates sustained mid-tier relevance and growing importance to end users over time.
“Collaborative BI remains an important topic for organizations seeing to better leverage both information resources and scare human experts to drive improved group-based decision making,” said Howard Dresner, founder and chief research officer at Dresner Advisory Services. “Our research shows that as collaboration becomes more popular, content governance is moving to the fore of the discussion.”
“Annotate content” and “search and navigation for content” are the top collaborative feature priorities with sale/marketing and small organizations the top feature users. The top governance feature preferences address administration of access, and integration with access/identity management systems
Wisdom of Crowds® research is based on data collected on usage and deployment trends, products, and vendors. BI users in all roles and throughout all industries contributed to provide a complete view of realities, plans, and perceptions of the market.
