Starting at a $1,095 monthly fee, people can change from one Mercedes-Benz model to another with the automaker’s upcoming subscription program.
The membership program is like a Netflix subscription. But instead of getting new movies, members are given access to different Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
Mercedes-Benz is not the only luxury-car maker to offer a subscription-based plan. Engadget noted that automakers such as BMW, Volvo, Lincoln and Lexus have introduced similar programs in various cities.
The company provided more details on the different pricing schemes it will offer under the subscription program, called the Mercedes-Benz Collection, in a Tuesday press release. The subscription-based program is divided into three tiers, namely Signature, Reserve, and Premier.
The automaker did not specify the pricing for each tier but announced that monthly subscription costs vary from $1,095 to $2,995 per month.
The Verge, however, shared a promotional poster of the membership plans showing that the Signature tier will cost the cheapest while the Reserve subscription appears to be the mid-priced plan, costing $1,595 per month. So, Premier is likely the category that will cost $2,995 per month.
The same report shared that the Signature tier includes the C-Class, GLC, SLC, and AMG CLA models, while the Reserve subscription offers the E-Class, GLE, AMG GLC, AMG SLC, and AMG C43 cars.
Mercedes-Benz also implied that the pricing may vary based on the city where the customer is located. For its pilot launch, the Mercedes-Benz Collection will be available in Nashville and Philadelphia. Meanwhile, subscription fees for all tiers are inclusive of vehicle insurance, 24/7 roadside assistance and vehicle maintenance.
Whichever tier customers will choose, they will have to pay a one-time activation fee of $495 and provide a photo of their valid driver’s license upon registration via the Mercedes-Benz Collection mobile app.
Subscribers will be contacted to determine their car preference and when they want it to be delivered after the company has verified their information including their driving and credit history. After the first car delivery, Mercedes-Benz Collection members can request for their next vehicles through the mobile app.
There are no mileage limitations, according to the automaker. But the Mercedes-Benz Collection FAQ page also said that the company may request for the return of a vehicle if it has been with a customer “for many weeks.”
