Dubai has started building two pedestrian bridges on Palm Jumeirah, with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) expecting them to serve about 16,000 residents and improve local access.
Construction is underway by the Shoreline and Golden Mile buildings, the RTA said. The authority placed the crossings within a broader set of traffic projects intended to make pedestrian routes safer and improve movement among homes, visitor areas and businesses.
A separate bridge at the World Trade Centre roundabout was scheduled to open Friday, Oct. 30. The RTA said the route linking Al Majlis Street with 2nd December Street would take about one minute after the opening, down from six minutes.
The road crossing extends more than 1 kilometer and is designed to carry 3,000 vehicles per hour, the authority said last week. The roundabout works complement the Al Mustaqbal Street Development Project, due for completion in 2027, which includes 1.5 kilometers of bridges and tunnels and an expansion to four lanes in each direction.
