Dyson has built its reputation on its bladeless fan product. Stylish and compact, the item presented innovation in such a common amenity. The company then followed that up with products that heat the air, and another that purifies it. In a few weeks, the company will be releasing the “Pure Hot+Cool Link,” which combines all three features in one machine.
As Engadget reports, Dyson is adding another item to its lineup which does everything that its other products can do, but in just one, expensive package. Like most electronic products these days, the “Pure Hot+Cool Link” has Wi-Fi connection and customers can control it as they will with the app that it comes with. It also costs $600 to get.
The “Pure Hot+Cool Link” can function as a heater, a cooler and an air purifier, all in one. It works much like its fragmented predecessors, with the heater sucking air from the bottom and heating it up internally, and it produces cool air via what the company calls “air multiplier technology.” As it does both things, the air is purified by a HEPA glass filter, which removes almost 99.95 percent of the dirt, dust, and even dead skin from the air.
Combining all three features in just one device was not an easy task, according to Sean Hopkins, the design engineer at Dyson, but it wasn’t because of the parts. Putting them together was simple enough because the units have roughly the same size and design. It was making the different feature work in harmony that presented the challenge, Wired reports.
“It comes down to taking into account how do we make the most efficient use of the purifier function while maintaining the room at a certain temperature,” Hopkins said. “It’s a well-timed balancing act or more like a see-saw.”
