eBay, the American multinational and e-commerce company, has filed two cryptocurrency-related patent applications. The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) published last week the applications that were submitted on 18th April last year.
The filings suggest that eBay wants to patent a "Distributed Cryptocurrency Unauthorised Transfer Monitoring System" and a "Distributed Cryptocurrency Reputation System".
The former includes receiving a “payer public key” that is associated with a current transaction between a payer and a payee while the latter includes monitoring a crypto currency public ledger.
Speculation about the company’s possible interest in digital currencies has been building up in recent years, with CEO John Donahoe hinting at bitcoin integration for PayPal – eBay's former subsidiary – on various occasions, CoinDesk reported.
