CBS’s modern take on Arthur Conan Doyle’s detective saga is down to 11 episodes, but Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) and Joan Watson (Lucy Liu) have yet to unravel the mystery on Capt. Thomas Gregson’s (Aidan Quinn) shooter from the premiere. But the teasers for “Elementary” season 7 episode 4 indicates they could be at least one step closer this week.
The “Elementary” season 7 episode 4 synopsis confirms that Holmes and Watson will continue investigating the shooting of Gregson that shook many fans in episode 1. Avid followers of the series would agree that it is unusual for the partners to remain empty-handed on a single case after three full episodes.
However, it appears that they might not be getting any closer to finding Gregson’s shooter in “Elementary” season 7 episode 4. The synopsis for this week’s installment indicates that Holmes is just about to realize they have not scratched the surface enough on this case.
It is also not surprising that this particular case is taking too long. “The attempted murder of Gregson is not an episodic story,” showrunner Rob Doherty told TVLine after the season premiere. “It won’t wrap up very quickly. It’s something that we will mark over the course of the season, and in many respects, it will drive the season.” Fans can then expect that “Elementary” season 7 episode 4 could even open more questions rather than providing answers.
Meanwhile, the 20-second preview of “Elementary” season 7 episode 4 shows Holmes and Watson investigating an explosion on the road. This could explain the episode’s title “Red Light, Green Light.” A van filled covered in graffiti rams into a much bigger trailer truck causing the said explosion. Holmes later goes to the scene to check on what’s left of the driver.
The next cutscene shows the duo seemingly determining whether the explosion is related to a gang war, with Holmes’ insider as a possible person of interest. Meanwhile, the “Elementary” season 7 episode 4 synopsis also floats the possibility that the explosion is something much bigger such as a terrorist attack.
“Elementary” season 7 episode 4 is directed by Miller. It will air on Thursday, June 13, at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
