Confirmed to return for a new season, “Elementary” Season 7 will be in the works quite soon. However, this almost was not the case since the show’s sixth season was apparently supposed to be its last. For the upcoming installment of episodes, it would seem that the program is finally going to be set in London. This was after a series of unfortunate events, which forced the characters out of the country.
Speaking recently to TV Line, showrunner Rob Doherty revealed that season six was written to be the last chapter of the show. However, this simply was not meant to be as “Elementary” Season 7 has been greenlit to go on. As such Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) and Joan Watson (Lucy Liu) will be getting into all kinds of trouble in London. It would also seem that there’s going to be a time jump.
“When we come back in the seventh season, a year will have passed,” Doherty said. “So all of our characters will have had time to really reflect on what happened at the end of the sixth season.”
As to what exactly occurred in season 6, the answer is that a lot had happened. However, one of the most profound is how the relationship between the main protagonists was pushed to be more open. As such, Sherlock told Joan how he really felt, which is likely to have a huge impact on events in “Elementary” Season 7. Doherty commented on this as well, along with a rather surprising revelation.
“I had to assume this was the end for the series. So I thought it was time for Sherlock to stop beating around the bushes and let the subtext be the text for once. When you look at any of our seasons, what you see or feel between them is love,” Doherty explained.
As Digital Spy notes, a lot of what happened in season six was due to the uncertainty of the show’s future. Now that it’s clear that “Elementary” Season 7 is coming, Doherty admits that he wishes he could have explored some of his characters more.
