Ellen DeGeneres Reportedly Retiring; Host Considering Katy Perry, Sean Hayes and Mario Lopez as Replacements

Ellen DeGeneres

Ellen DeGeneres is once again rumored to be leaving her “Ellen Show” as she wants to retire already. It was said that Portia De Rossi’s wife is now in the process of looking for someone who can replace her and take over her popular talk show.

According to Perez Hilton, Ellen DeGeneres’ reign in the afternoon show is almost up. It was mentioned that the host would step down if not in the next season, then the one after that. Ellen will now sign off from the “Ellen Show” after almost 16 years on the air.

The outlet stated that as Ellen DeGeneres leaves her post, there are at least three celebrities who are being considered to be her successor. Based on the claim, Katy Perry, Mario Lopez, and Sean Hayes are in the list for candidates who will replace the 61-year-old comedian and TV personality.

The three mentioned names were reportedly considered because they have the experience that makes them suitable for the job. Firstly, Perry was a judge in “American Idol” while Lopez hosted “Extra” for a long time. As for Hayes, it appears that Ellen DeGeneres picked him as possible host after seeing his potential when he appeared on the show as a guest host last year.

Now, Gossip Cop is challenging this story because it does not sound right. The fact-checking publication argued that although Ellen DeGeneres actually hinted that she might leave her show after her contract’s expiration in 2020, there are no plans to find her replacement because she might just be renewing her contract after all. The site added that it is still too early to talk about replacements as well since Ellen still have time to think about continuing with her program.

GC stressed that this Ellen DeGeneres speculation about leaving her own show is baseless. In fact, such stories have been around for some time already and other artists were also mentioned to replace her such as Neil Patrick Harris. But up to now, these were always debunked so there is a high chance that the Perez Hilton report is false as well.
