Ethereum’s standards repository added two draft proposals for AI agents this month, one setting out shared decision procedures and the other specifying how agents can point to on-chain skills, tasks and identities.
The repository records ERC-8436 as merged Oct. 14 and ERC-8444 as merged Oct. 15. The corresponding pull request for ERC-8436 and pull request for ERC-8444 show both entries marked Draft. Each listing links to an open discussion in the Ethereum Magicians community.
ERC-8436, the Agent Collective Decision Framework, describes a process for authorized group decisions involving AI agents, people or contracts. It includes voting procedures and appeals. The proposal specifies two registries that can be deployed together to record policies, issues, ballots and results. The registries would not carry out external effects; contracts relying on a recorded decision would enforce their own committed actions.
The proposal frames the design as addressing coordination gaps it sees in existing governance, multisignature and single-evaluator approaches. It gives groups a way to record how a decision was made while leaving any resulting action to the contract responsible for it.
ERC-8444, Agentic Resource Discovery (ARD) Onchain, defines four proposed anchors for ARD entries: an executable skill bound to a token, a task tender bound to a token, an agent identity tied to an address, or an ARD registry endpoint. The proposal describes ARD as a discovery layer and identifies demand-side tenders and on-chain value anchors as gaps it aims to address.
The proposals therefore target different functions: recording group decisions and pointing discovery entries to on-chain references. Both remain in Draft status, with their discussion threads open in Ethereum Magicians; neither is an adopted standard.
