Initiative for Cryptocurrencies and Contracts (IC3), an initiative of faculty members at Cornell University, Cornell Tech, UC Berkeley, UIUC and the Technion, has added researchers from European universities, CoinDesk reported.
Launched in 2015, IC3 existing members include the likes of IBM, Fidelity Labs, Intel, Microsoft, JP Morgan, and blockchain startup Digital Asset Holdings. The National Science Foundation awarded IC3 a $3 million 3-year grant in 2015.
The latest researchers to join the initiative include faculty members at ETH Zurich, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), and University College London (UCL).
"This expansion will bring fresh new perspectives into IC3, growing our research portfolio and reach, and expanding us geographically to those places on the globe where exciting new blockchain deployment developments are taking place,” Emin Gun Sirer, co-director of IC3 and an associate professor at Cornell, said.
In addition, the initiative is also leverging the expertise of economist Maureen O’Hara, Robert W. Purcell Professor of Finance at the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University.
