The U.S. dollar traded near CHF 0.8250 against the Swiss franc early Monday, FXStreet reported, below recent highs as investors awaited a Federal Reserve decision on interest rates.
FXStreet put the pair at CHF 0.8250 per dollar at 4:49 a.m. EDT (08:49 UTC). In PoundSterlingLive’s daily price history, USD/CHF closed Oct. 23 at CHF 0.8251 after touching CHF 0.8192 during that session. The close is a daily figure from a separate provider, rather than a quote taken at the same time as Monday’s snapshot.
That historical series records highs of CHF 0.8270 on Oct. 19 and 20. Monday’s quote was below those levels and near the close reached after Friday’s dollar gain against the franc. USD/CHF measures how many francs one dollar buys; a higher reading indicates a stronger dollar against the franc.
The Fed meets Oct. 27–28. On Sept. 16, it raised its target range for the federal funds rate by 0.25 percentage points to 3.75%–4%. Minutes of that meeting show most participants judged another increase likely to be appropriate before the end of 2026, while saying subsequent decisions would depend on incoming data.
The Swiss National Bank (SNB) held its policy rate at 0% on Sept. 24. In an Oct. 22 account of its policy discussion, the SNB said the franc’s decline since June was consistent with a widening gap between Swiss and foreign interest rates. It said the weaker currency had supported growth in Switzerland and that the rate gap had increased the franc’s appeal as a funding currency for carry trades.
In its Sept. 24 policy announcement, the SNB separately said franc weakness had contributed to a higher conditional inflation forecast. The Fed’s next policy decision is scheduled for Oct. 28.
