Hajime Tabata is the director of the upcoming JRPG “Final Fantasy XV,” which is one of the most highly anticipated console video games right now. The title is set to come out in late November and gamers are already excited, but Tabata himself has expressed excitement and interest on another console. During a recent interview, he expressed that he wants to make a game for the upcoming Nintendo “Switch,” which is due to come out in March 2017.
Speaking to a French video game media publication called Gameblog, Tabata said that he is very interested in Nintendo’s future portable console. The interview was posted in French. Fortunately, Nintendo Everything translated some parts into English.
“I’m very interested in this machine! As a player, but also as a developer,” Tabata told Gameblog. “The Nintendo Switch that you can transform into a controller, that you can put into a dock, that you can move around with, on which you can replace elements.
“It’s been a while that I’ve told myself that I would like to make games on a Nintendo machine, so if the Nintendo Switch could be that opportunity, I’ll be delighted!”
This is a refreshing point of view from a video game veteran during a time when several analysts are already counting the “Split” out. All the leaks about the console are also not doing the portable gaming unit any favors, as everything from the limited battery life to its threat to the 3DS are really hacking into its prospects as Nintendo’s next big hit.
Speaking of the 3DS, it would seem that Nintendo is anxious to assure customers that the handheld gaming unit isn’t going anywhere despite the “Split,” Digital Spy reports. The Japanese company’s president, Tatsumi Kimishima has said several times that the 3DS is growing strong, with healthy sales. So gamers and the press can cool their jets about the popular mobile platform.
