Many publications and reviewers fully expected Square Enix to botch the port of its massive JRPG Final Fantasy XV to the PC since it was exclusive to consoles upon launch. As it turns out, however, the PC version is an incredible example of a port done right with all of the most impressive bits intact and available for gamers to use.
Final Fantasy XV Windows Edition is finally out, with PC gamers able to buy it from Steam or the Windows Store. It costs $49.99 and as Ars Technica notes, there was no assurance that it would be worth getting.
What really makes this particular port is the sheer level of scalability and customization options that it provides to players. PC gamers can be very particular about this subject, with those who own powerful rigs taking issue with games that don’t allow them to manipulate the graphical settings in the most minute of ways.
Then there’s the revamped control scheme compared to the test versions that reviewers got to try a few months ago. Essentially, gamers can now play FFXV intuitively with the mouse and keyboard control.
Performance has been noted as stable and impressive as well, holding up at 60Fps for the majority of the experience. This is essential for PC owners who can be really touchy about the subject of smooth frame rate.
It would seem that the port is so impressive that reviewers like those at Forbes are lamenting the fact that they tried the game on the console first. With the impending launch of the game’s Royal Edition on the PC, the RPG is finally shaping up to be the game that many disappointed gamers were hoping it would be.
Those who aren’t fans of RPGs likely won’t see what all the fuss is about. For long-time followers of the franchise, however, getting the Windows Edition is a no-brainer.
