Finnair is switching from champagne to sparkling wine in short-haul business flights beginning in April.
Business class passengers can expect to be served the sparkling wine brand Bernard-Massard Cuvée de l’Ecusson from Luxembourg.
It is among the changes made by the airline to its onboard catering in short and long-haul flights.
In Business Class on European flights, the meal service depends on the route.
On short flights, the airline will offer a sandwich with a selection of beverages. On longer flights, they provide a hot main meal, something sweet, and beverages. Champagne is replaced by sparkling wine.
On European flights, Finnair offers complimentary water and blueberry juice in economy class. Meals may be pre-ordered for most European flights via Finnair app. They can also purchase snacks and drinks from the onboard menu.
Cost-cutting is the reason behind these changes:
Eerika Enne, Head of In-Flight Customer Experience at Finnair, explained that changes in their in-flight services are among the many actions they are taking to restore Finnair’s profitability.
