FleetPartners Group Ltd. shares surged on Monday after the Australian vehicle leasing company confirmed it had received an indicative takeover proposal from private equity firm Pacific Equity Partners (PEP) valued at approximately A$760.3 million (US$534.5 million).
The non-binding proposal offers A$3.60 per share, representing a premium of roughly 27% over FleetPartners’ previous closing price of A$2.83. The offer sparked strong investor interest, sending the company’s shares up as much as 17% during trading to A$3.31, their highest level in about 20 months. The rally also put the stock on track for its biggest intraday percentage gain in more than six years.
FleetPartners said its board has begun reviewing the proposal and is carefully assessing its merits. The company added that shareholders will be updated as the evaluation process progresses. No assurance has been given that the discussions will result in a binding agreement or completed transaction.
The potential acquisition highlights the continued appetite of private equity firms for Australian-listed companies, particularly businesses with stable cash flows and long-term growth opportunities. Australia has seen a steady wave of takeover activity in recent years as investment firms seek attractive assets despite ongoing market uncertainty.
Several well-known Australian companies have attracted acquisition interest, including insurance broker Steadfast, fertility services provider Monash IVF, and asset manager Perpetual. FleetPartners now joins the growing list of firms drawing attention from financial sponsors looking to capitalize on undervalued public companies.
FleetPartners operates one of Australia’s leading vehicle leasing and fleet management businesses, providing services to corporate, government, and consumer customers. If the proposed deal advances, it would mark another significant private equity transaction in Australia’s transportation and fleet management sector.
Investors will now closely monitor further announcements from FleetPartners regarding the proposal, with any formal bid likely to influence the company’s valuation and broader sentiment toward Australian mergers and acquisitions.
