LIVERMORE, Calif., April 27, 2017 -- In its annual survey of semiconductor probe card suppliers for 2016, leading market research firm VLSIresearch again ranked FormFactor (NASDAQ:FORM) as the world’s number one supplier on a revenue basis. FormFactor increased its market share to 30% in the advanced probe card market and expanded its lead to more than double its nearest competitor, from both organic share gains as well as six months of inorganic growth resulting from the second-half addition of Cascade Microtech revenues.
VLSIresearch forecasts the advanced probe card market will grow at 6.7% CAGR to reach $1.5 billion by 2021. According to their survey, the fastest growing sub-segment in this sector is MEMS fabricated probe cards growing at 8.9% CAGR, where FormFactor achieved a commanding market share of 40%. VLSIresearch described this upward trend as driven by migration to higher parallelism testing to reduce test cost, and the need for finer pitches, to enable advanced packaging technologies such as copper pillar bumping and 2.5D/3D integrated circuit package test.
“FormFactor has experienced impressive growth both organically and through the acquisition of Cascade Microtech in the second half of 2016,” said Risto Puhakka, president of VLSIresearch. “FormFactor’s scale and technology now place them in a strong position as top supplier, serving a customer base that demands increased quality and performance to address key technology transitions.”
“Our goal has always been to continually innovate and improve products and processes to enable our customers to meet their test and measurement challenges,” said FormFactor CEO Mike Slessor. “With our investments in technology and an exceptional global support network, we partner with customers throughout the development process, helping them optimize device performance and advance yield knowledge, ultimately accelerating their profitability.”
