The National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee) put France’s preliminary annual inflation rate at 3.4% in October, marking a faster pace than in September.

The annual rate was 3.1% in September. It compares prices with the same month a year earlier.

The monthly measure showed prices up 0.4% from September to October. In September, that measure had declined 0.3%.

The annual and monthly readings use different comparison periods: one looks back a year, while the other tracks consecutive months. Insee plans to publish final results for October on Nov. 13.
