There is no denying the fact that beneath its sing-song surface, “Frozen” is a movie franchise with a lot of dark themes. Isolation, trauma, emotional abuse, and imprisonment are just some of the most questionable events to occur in the first film alone. This could then come to a head in “Frozen 2” where it might be revealed that Elsa (Idina Menzel) caused the death of her parents and she will die, as well.
As OtakuKart reports, new footage for “Frozen 2” was shown to investors and attendees of an event where some details about the movie were revealed. It would appear that something happened to Elsa that made Olaf (Josh Gad) say, “I don’t think Elsa is okay” to Anna (Kristen Bell).
It would also seem that the “Frozen 2” clip featured a troll telling the characters that they “must find the truth.” This poses some disturbing questions that will need to be answered and chief among them is what will happen to Elsa. Based on the clips and hints released, so far, the answer might be a lot more disturbing than people believe.
In the first film, it was shown that a storm killed the king and queen. However, what if Elsa had somehow summoned the weather disaster herself? Years later, she could be suffering from guilt and anger at the people who essentially forced her to be alone and isolated her from the world. If this ends up being the case, “Frozen 2” would take on a far more mature theme than would be expected.
Viewers will likely learn more about “Frozen 2” in the months before its Nov. 22 premiere date. One can only hope that by the end of the film, it will be in a much lighter tone than when it begins. Otherwise, this might not be a kids’ movie anymore.
