“Frozen 2” will be coming out this November 22 and Disney has begun to market the sequel. The latest endeavor on this front came in the form of a Japanese poster which hinted the plot of the second installment.
“Why was Elsa given powers?” the text on the poster reads. While seemingly vague, the question does suggest that Elsa (Idina Menzel), Anna (Kristen Bell), Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), and Olaf (Josh Gad) will be trying to find the source of the queen’s ice magic, Yahoo reported.
This plot is quite risky for “Frozen 2” given that Elsa’s powers are so encompassing that it’s confusing for some of the audiences. Apart from able to blast a cold gust of ice that freezes objects, she can also create living creatures made of snow and alter her clothing to suit her preference. It would be interesting to see how the writers explain this seemingly vague magical capabilities and how exactly Elsa acquire the gift/curse.
Some of the speculations are saying that she may have gotten it from her bloodline as has been portrayed in “Once Upon A Time” season 4. The series revealed that Elsa actually had an aunt that has the same ice powers. But due to a mishap that resulted in her sister’s death, she was trapped in an urn to prevent such incident from occurring. “Frozen 2” could very much introduce this mysterious aunt.
Given that Evan Rachel Wood’s role in the sequel has yet to be announced, it could be that she’ll be playing Elsa’s powerful relative that would teach her to fully control her powers. Meanwhile, the trailer of “Frozen 2” appears to be gearing up our heroes for an impending conflict, hinting that the theme of the sequel will indeed take on a darker tone. Of course, it’s important to remember that all of these are mere speculations at this point as Disney is keeping the sequel’s plot under wraps.
