Fund flow analysis: Global ETFs

Fund flow statistics are extremely helpful in understanding investor sentiment towards different sections of financial markets. Latest fund flow statistics available, for the week ending 20th April, from ETF.com, point to further improvement in risk appetite, but it is not once again broad based.

Inflows

  • This week’s fund flow analysis shows investor preference for equities but more discretionary than broad based. Vanguard S&P 500 topped the list with $431.2 million inflows, followed by Industrial Select SPDR, SPDR S&P retail, Vanguard FTSE developed market with $398.9, $357.1 and $334.3 million inflows respectively.
  • iShares core U.S. Aggregate bond saw inflows of $343.4 million inflows.
  • iShares Core MSCI Emerging markets saw inflows of $255.1 million.

Outflows 

  • SPDR S&P 500 saw biggest outflow in tune of $2.91 billion, followed by $643.1 million from Powershares QQQ and Wisdom Tree Europe Hedged Equity ($308.3 million).             
  • Investors withdrew $262.6 million from iShares MSCI Japan.
  • Gold seems to be falling out of favor, SPDR Gold saw $206.8 million flowing out.
