The joint-venture company between GM, SAIC Motor, and Liuzhou Wuling Motors revealed the Wuling Asta Hybrid, the cheapest hybrid it could sell in the US for around $14,500.
The cheapest hybrid available in the US is now the Toyota Corolla Hybrid, which sells for $23,750, after the Hyundai Ioniq, previously sold for $23,600, has been discontinued.
A more premium Asta Hybrid is also available for around $16,000.
Powering the Asta Hybrid is a 2.0-liter engine paired with an electromagnetic dedicated hybrid transmission.
The joint-venture currently builds China's cheapest electric vehicle, the Mini EV, which sells for only $4,500.
