Local convenience store chain GS25 will begin offering instant vegan tteokbokki products, which are 100 percent meatless and certified vegan by the Korea Agency of Vegan Certification and Services, a Ministry of Food and Drug Safety-approved non-profit organization.
Tteokbokki is a rice cake in chili sauce. It is popular as street food in Korea.
The company had removed all possible contacts with meat in the manufacturing process of its tteokbokki products under the name Veggie Garden, using only facilities producing meat alternatives.
GS Retail, the convenience chain operator, said that by selling tteokbokk, they offer an opportunity for people to easily experience a vegetarian diet.
The vegan tteokbokki comes in spicy and black bean sauce flavors and costs 2,700 won.
