The upgraded release of “GTA V” now has an official release date on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Unlike previous speculations, the game will be available on the new-gen consoles on the same day, but PlayStation fans are still getting exclusive freebies at launch.
‘GTA V’ isn’t launching exclusively on PS5 after all
Last June, Sony held a State of Play presentation focusing on games launching on PS5. The program started with the Rockstar Games logo that immediately excited fans thinking it was the much-awaited announcement of “GTA 6.” However, in a matter of seconds, the hype turned to collective frustration when the announcement turned out to be another next-gen release of “GTA V.”
Rockstar delivered on its promise to launch the new-gen upgrade of “GTA V” in the second half of 2021. The developer announced on Tuesday that the re-release of the game will be available on Nov. 11 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
While the enhanced and expanded version was confirmed to be released on the new generation of consoles, all promotional announcements from Rockstar only specifically mentioned PS5 until Tuesday. This led to the assumption that the upgraded “GTA V” would be timed-exclusive on Sony’s console. Luckily for Xbox fans, that is not the case.
This is now the second re-release of “GTA V” since the game originally launched in 2013 on PS3 and Xbox 360. The game was brought to newer consoles, PS4 and Xbox One, more than a year later. Its first launch on PC was also supposed to become available in 2014, but Rockstar eventually delayed it to early 2015.
PlayStation fans are still getting exclusive content at launch
PS5 players still have more reasons to be excited about the new-gen version of “GTA V. They are getting way more items and another game for free in November.
It can be recalled that “GTA Online” is slated to become a standalone game on an unspecified date in summer. But PS5 owners buying the re-release of “GTA V” can access the online multiplayer for free for the first three months, while Xbox Series X/S players will have to buy it separately. Rockstar is also giving away a monthly “GTA Online” subsidy of $1 million of in-game money to PS4 players with PS Plus subscriptions until the online multiplayer launches on PS5 in November.
