Some 21,468 patients and wounded people in Gaza need treatment outside the territory, the Health Ministry said Thursday, renewing its call to reopen Rafah as it reported six deaths in the prior 24-hour period.
The ministry designated 6,430 cases as priorities. The ministry said repeated border closures and what it called intentional delays in evacuation procedures had worsened patients’ conditions; it reported that dozens died before receiving permission to leave and thousands more saw their health decline sharply.
The ministry’s Thursday update also recorded 38 injuries. Al Jazeera reported that a drone strike hit a car in Maghazi, killing two people; correspondent Ashraf Abu Amra said the wounded were taken to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital.
In another strike in Rafah’s al-Mawasi area, four people killed were civilian employees of Gaza’s Ministry of Economy who monitored aid trucks entering through Karem Abu Salem (Kerem Shalom), Al Jazeera reported. Correspondent Moath al-Kahlout reported that more than 30 others were wounded.
Since February, 2,614 people have been evacuated for treatment through Rafah and 442 through Karem Abu Salem, bringing the total to 3,056, the ministry said. EconoTimes has also reported separate fatal incidents during the ceasefire.
