The German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) indicated that Germany’s retail turnover for 2019 is likely to be between 2.8 percent and 3 percent higher in real terms than in 2018. In nominal terms, turnover growth is likely to be between 3.3 percent and 3.5 percent. This estimation is based on data for the first 11 months of 2019.
The provisional data for November showed that that turnover in retail trade rose 2.8 percent in real terms and 3.1 percent in nominal terms from November 2018. The number of days open for sale was 26 both in November 2019 and November 2018.
On a year-on-year basis, turnover in retail trade came in at 2.9 percent in real terms and at 3.5 percent in nominal terms. After adjusting for calendar and seasonal variations, the November turnover was in real and nominal terms 2.1 percent higher than in October 2019.
