Here are some key events to keep a tab on,
- EU, Catalonia, and Spain: There are signs that tides are changing in Catalonia, with independence leader Carles Puigdemont saying that independence is not the only solution and Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy owing to end the separatist havoc.
- Saudi Arabia: Saudi Arabia’s crown prince Mohammad bin-Salman, who replaced his elder cousin Mohammad bin-Nayef to become next in line to the throne after his father King Salman by a royal decree has further tightened his grip on power as the newly formed anti-corruption committee arrested scores of princes, several senior officials, and incumbent ministers. The committee reportedly seized assets worth as much as $800 billion. More than 200 people have reportedly been arrested.
- Iran and France’s Macron: Tehran has dismissed calls to negotiate its ballistic activities voiced by French President Emmanuel Macron, who earlier considered amendments to the nuclear deal over Iran’s missile program, and even sanctions if necessary.
- Saudi Arabia, and Houthi rebels: Houthi rebels, which fired a missile from Yemen towards Saudi Arabia last week has warned that if Yemen blockade is not lifted, the rebels would sink Saudi oil tankers and ships.
- EU and Venezuela: EU foreign ministers approved economic sanctions, including an arms embargo, on Venezuela on Monday. The decision comes after the United State sanctioned several high-level officers in the Maduro government and as the country is on the verge of a default.
