Global Geo-political Series: North Korea tests global resolve with fresh nuclear test

North Korea has increased the stake further over the weekend when it reportedly conducted a nuclear bomb/Hydrogen bomb test. It was widely reported in South Korean and Japanese media that a man made tremor of magnitude 6.3 on Richter scale was felt that was generated in North Korea. It was widely assumed at that point that North Korea has tested another nuclear bomb as the State media KCNA released several photographs of Supreme leader Kim Jong-Un monitoring nuclear warhead. It was not clear, whether it was the same warhead that was tested or a different one. Here is a part of the official communication from KCNA, the state news agency,

“Respected Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un guided the work for nuclear weaponization on the spot.

He was greeted by senior officials of the Department of Munitions Industry of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and scientists of the Nuclear Weapons Institute before being briefed on the details of nuclear weaponization.

The institute recently succeeded in making a more developed nuke, true to the strategic intention of the WPK for bringing about a signal turn in nuclear weaponization.

He watched an H-bomb to be loaded into new ICBM.

Saying that he felt the pride of indomitably bolstering up the nuclear forces at a great price while seeing the Juche-oriented thermonuclear weapon with super explosive power made by our own efforts and technology, he expressed great satisfaction over the fact that our scientists do anything without fail if the party is determined to do.

He was acquainted himself with technical specifications and structural and operational characters of the H-bomb. The scientists further upgraded its technical performance at a higher ultra-modern level on the basis of precious successes made in the first H-bomb test.”

Later North Korea confirmed that test and claimed that it has successfully tested H-bomb. The move comes at a time when the United States is exerting tremendous pressure on Pyongyang to give up on its nuclear weapon and ballistic missile testing. Last week Pyongyang tested an inter-mediate range ballistic missile that flew through the airspace of Japan before plunging into the sea. In response to North Korea’s defiant testing, both Japan and South Korea have increased their own military preparation and attack testing.

The test also came at a time when both North Korea’s traditional partners, Russia and China have agreed with the United States at the United Nation’s Security Council meeting to impose new sanctions on North Korean exports aimed to reduce Pyongyang’s export revenue by almost a third or a billion dollars. North Korea continues to remain defiant and continues to increase the risk of direct confrontation with the United States.
