Global Geopolitical Series: Key updates from across the world

Here are some key events to keep a tab on,

  • Israel-Palestine-Jerusalem: As the donor countries to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) led by the European Union approved an emergency aid package in the tune of €42.5 million in response to President Trump’s withholding of aid to the UNRWA, the global leaders have urged the United States to not to go alone in trying to make peace in the Middle East.  Saudi Arabia has condemned the U.S. decision on Jerusalem at the UN. 
     
  • U.S. government shutdown: Both Republicans and Democrats agreed to avert a government shutdown but the next deadline looms on March 5th.  
     
  • Israel-Poland: A bitter diplomatic feud has broken out between Israel and Poland as the Polish government passes a law saying that Poland bears no responsibility to mass killings of the Jews in Poland during the Second World War Millions of Jews died at the hands of Nazi Germany in Polish gas chambers.  
     
  • Russia’s downed jet: Russia is working to find out, how the Manpad that helped in downing a Russian SU-23 jet, got into the hands of terrorists. Russia has hit the area with precision missile strikes from where the terrorists shot at the SU-23 jet. The pilot was reportedly died during a firefight with the terrorists.
