Global Geopolitical Series: Key updates from across the world

Here are some key events to keep a tab on,

  • Israel-Palestine-Jerusalem: Despite PLO/PA, Israel, United States, and Russia all working to restart the peace process, reports of clashes are regularly appearing in the media, some blaming Israel, while others blaming Palestinians.

  • China: Over the weekend, President Xi Jinping led Chinese government put forward a proposal that abolishes the two-term limit on Presidency.  The state constitution has limited the president and the vice-president to two terms of five years for the past four decades — since Deng Xiaoping sought to institutionalize peaceful transitions of power after 30 years of one man rule under Mao Zedong.

  • Korean Peninsula: The Trump administration brought the attention back to the negotiations by announcing a severe round of sanctions against North Korea, on the final day of the Winter Olympic, where both North and South Korean athletes marched under unification flag. The action was taken targeting one individual, 27 entities, and 28 vessels located, registered, or flagged in North Korea, China, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Marshall Islands, Tanzania, Panama, and Comoros. North Korea slammed the latest round of talks but signaled openness for talks.
