President Trump confirmed the rumors that there is a back team in Washington which is working behind his back to derail his foreign agendas, especially in his approach towards the Middle East, by confirming former Secretary of State John Kerry’s meetings with a sitting foreign minister of Iran without proper authorization. John Kerry was one of the key architects of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPoA), better known as the Iran Nuclear Agreement.
According to earlier reports and Mr. Kerry’s own account, while speaking about the allegations at a Fox News show, his advice has been to wait it out. According to Mr. Kerry’s own account, he met with Iranian foreign minister Javad Zarif, three or four times since President Trump took office.
President Trump responded in a tweet, “John Kerry had illegal meetings with the very hostile Iranian Regime, which can only serve to undercut our great work to the detriment of the American people. He told them to wait out the Trump Administration! Was he registered under the Foreign Agents Registration Act? BAD!” President Trump was referring to the Logan Act as he called the meetings illegal. The Logan Act states that unauthorized diplomacy with foreign powers by private American citizens is a crime.
It is not clear at the moment, whether the former diplomat will be charged under the act or not.
