Global geopolitical Series: Trump praises response to his letter as North Korea’s top man arrives in Washington to discuss meeting

In a tweet, the U.S. President praised the response from the North Korean side to his letter last week, where he officially canceled the meeting with North Korea’s supreme leader Kim Jong-un scheduled for June 12th in Singapore. After Trump’s open letter to Kim that was published by the White House, canceled the meeting citing tremendous anger and hostility from the North Korean side, a flurry of diplomatic efforts took place in order to secure the meeting. Top U.S. and South Korean diplomats met with their North Korean counterparts. South Korean president Moon Jae in himself met with Kim Jong-Un.

Though President Trump hasn’t officially revived the meeting, he praised the coming of former North Korean top military official Kim Jong Chol as the top negotiator to Washington. He wrote, “We have put a great team together for our talks with North Korea. Meetings are currently taking place concerning Summit, and more. Kim Young Chol, the Vice Chairman of North Korea, heading now to New York. Solid response to my letter, thank you!”
